November 7, 2020, Valhalla Bijou Hunt Club near Bennett, Colorado.
Beginners and novices participated in classroom instruction, clay target practice, and guided hunts in this all-day affair. South Metro Denver PF volunteers were instructors, guides, field safety officers, and dog handlers. Our dogs were all pointers of different breeds. It was a perfect day for a lot of learning and fun.

On Feb. 28, 2020 a group of ladies (and one token guy) were guests of the chapter at the Valhalla Bijou Preserve. Our guests were primarily all from the oil and gas industry in various capacities. Pheasants and chukars were the game. There were 2 hunts that day. The morning group received a brief safety refresher before heading to the field. The second group received more intensive safety and field simulation instruction before their afternoon hunt. Both groups got to "warm up" with some practice clay targets before heading to the field. PF chapter members provided the instruction and acted as guides, dog handlers and field safety officers during the hunts. Pointing dogs were used exclusively for theses hunts. Lunch in the clubhouse included sandwiches, chips and gourmet "chukar dip". Homemade donuts and cookies topped off the lunch perfectly. Pheasants Forever has initiated a "Women on the Wing" program to reach out to women who would like to learn how to hunt and enjoy opportunities to be involved in habitat conservation. Other PF programs for women include "Women, Wine and Wild Game", and Women on the Wing Chapters. Women are the fastest growing demographic of all hunters today.

PF, in partnership with the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Natl. Wildlife Refuge and Odyssey Charter School, brought students to the Refuge to learn about pollinators like bees and butterflies. After some classroom activity, the youngsters "dug in" to actually plant a large area with seed that will produce a diverse planting. The project will support pollinators with critically important habitat at the Refuge.

In partnership with Colorado Parks & Wildlife and Americas for Conservation and the Arts. Our chapter brought a group of Hispanic children to Barr Lake State Park to learn about habitat conservation. Children were given some in-the field instruction by PF Biologist Jerry Miller on what makes good wildlife habitat. Then the children proceeded to actually plant trees and shrubs at predetermined sites. Many children learned how to handle a shovel for the first time. We wrapped up with a fun cultural activity, a poetry recital in the amphitheater.

As part of Mentor Days at Barr Lake State Park, P brought our trailers and equipment to the park to set up a pellet gun target activity. Participants receive instruction in fundamentals of gun safety using a classroom approach before learning to shoot the pellet guns. Most shooters were able to shoot a bullseye or two and were thrilled to be able to keep their targets.
